How Do You Find The Name Of the Railroad Someone Worked On During The 30's ,40's and 50's?

Looking for someone that could give me a way to find out what railroad someone once worked for.A depot agent.If someone could help put me on a lead to f ind the answer it would be deeply appreciated. Thanks in advance.
