  1. you have to bring you whole hand though instead if stoping right when you hit the ball swing all the way down it you hit the net then the set is to close to the net

  2. I'm horrible at spiking but i take lessons so try taking lessons. Have an indevidual coach and he teaches me how to spike.

    P.S: I'm getting better

  3. When your coaches say follow through they mean that you need to swing all the way through the ball. dont go to swing and stop at a certain point. the most important thing is TIMING!!!! practice to see where you need to start from so you woulnt hit the net. im 6 foot so i need to start alot further back than the rest of my team and it took me a while to figure that out. so when doing your approach make sure both of your arms go up to swing then its one motion turn your upper body and when your swinging down with your hitting arm make sure that your opposite arm goes down at the same time. When you go to hit make sure your feet also stay square to the setter depending on what position you hit out of do your approach then when you land your feet should be faced towards the setter so turn your body when landing to do so. another little pointer make sure to hit corners it really helps from being blocked and makes teh hit harder to recover. so once again what they mean by following through is to use an open hand and swing all the way through and snap your wrist ( dont stop yoru swinging arm in mid air and hit the ball this will usually cause it to go out so follow through and swing down.) hope this helped!!!!!!!!!! GooD LucK :)))))

  4. Try this:

When the setter set the ball, even if it is too close to the net, swing hard and try your best not to touch the net... if you "accidentally" touched the net, say "my bad, let's try it again, maybe set me a little farther from the net"... you don't want to throw any attitude to your setter, and you don't want to "tell" your coach that it was all setter's fault.

Now that you have set up a good relationship with your setter and your coach, you will sure get more hitting minutes, more hitting practice, and you will be a better hitter.

As the matter of fact, it would be your problem if you don't follow thru, especially during practice, no matter how bad the set was. People are normally picking on the guy who could not finish, not the guy who "messed up" at the beginning. You as a team-oriented player should try to hide that obvious fact under the table, and work out those details with your setter. After all, it is the setter who can make you look better... or not.

  5. if you follow through and hit the net, that means you are jumping too close to the net or that the setter is giving you too tight of a set. either ask your setter to set farther from the net, or start your approach a few steps back than normal.

  6. I always tell players to try and touch their hitting arm elbow with their hitting arm fingers when they follow through. If it's done right, it can also help with your wrist snap on the ball.

When you try to touch your elbow on your follow through, your arm will actually swing away from the net.

Of course, no follow through will work if you jump too close to the net as one other answerer said. You should be a full arms length away from the net when you swing away.

The reason coaches say follow through is because if you don't, you hit a flat ball that almost always goes out. If you follow through, you snap on the ball and let your shoulders (Rotator cuff) do the swinging. Thus hitting the ball down, harder.

  7. it helps if you do your aproch and when you get the ball swing your arm and flip your rist and try to make it straight down.............follow through with your arm!!!!!!!! but dont swing into the net

  8. If you follow thru and hit the net, that means either the set is too tight to the net or you're jumping too close to the net.

Make sure that you jump behind the ball and go up straight.

One of the most common errors is that hitters jump in arch and get net after hitting the ball.

Also, in case the sets are too tight, try cutting it at sharp angle.  Your arm would swing almost parallel to the net so you wouldn't get net.

Your coach is right.  It is important to follow through with your swing because that's how you get power and also put top spin in the ball.  Good Luck.
