For wifi you need to subscribe to a broadband service, then buy a wireless router to connect to it. Some providers will actually supply a wireless router, just ensure it is not being rented, this can be very expansive.

"Wifi" is just a wireless connection between your computer and your internet provider.  It only eliminates one piece of wire.  You still have to buy service from a provider.  The only "free wifi" services are those towns that provide it town-wide (you pay for it in taxes) or stores that provide it (like Starbucks - a wireless connection to their provider that they pay for).  There's no free internet connection - someone always pays for it.
