How Do You Perform Background Data Downloads For The PS3?

Ok, i want to do some background data downloads for my PS3 games, however when i got to start downloading, it says that "'You can't perform background data of this content", and i don't have a clue on what that means or how i can't download. HELP PLEASE

its only on downloading games or demos an option will say perform download in backround press x and there but not on pics or music
