Question:

How Do You Pick A Time of Year?

How do you decide which is the better time of year for a wedding. I'm a teacher and I only really have about 4 weeks off in the summer. One week in June and 3 weeks in August, because I work summer school in July. We probably won't take a honeymoon right away anyway.

I've always pictured a summer wedding, because that's traditional and I like traditional. In addition, I like the warmer weather. I don't want to be freezing in my dress. I also want to have a portion of my wedding outside (cocktail hour) Also, the trees are green and lush.

However, October has it's benefits too. The trees are turning colors. You can do a lovely fall motif for centerpieces and colors. However, I'm worried that it might be too chilly, especially since we live in the Northeast. I don't want to freeze my butt off while taking pictures. Yet, it might be better. In the summer it can get so hot, too hot for guests and the bridal party in heavy suits/dresses. So, the fall might work well.

The dates are really no issue. We are open to either Fall or Summer. But, I can't decide which I like more. Some help or insight?

  1. We wanted a fall wedding. It is way too hot here (central Cali) and in Las Vegas, where we are having our wedding, for a summer wedding. We started dating in the fall. It was a no brainer for us.

Consider the colors you want to use-Summer or fall colors? Can you get the venue you want in the summer or will it have to wait? Indoor or outdoor?

  2. go with what works best with your school schedule.I'm doing the same thing.I dont even know if we'll be able to take a honeymoon.I'm getting married in spring break week of next year.

  3. Why Not Pick A Date That Is Special To You?

If You Can't Decide What Season Why Not Get Married On A Date That Had A Certain Significance In One Of Those Seasons.

Maybe The Day You Met, A First Date, A Kiss, Date You Got Engaged?

I Always Knew I Wanted A Wedding On A Warm Day, But Not Too Warm Considering I'd Be In A Big Dress.

So My Fiance & I Agreed On Getting Married On Our Anniversary Of When We First Started Dating. So Ours Will Be In March, An Autumn Wedding (We Are In Australia).

So, Why Not Brainstorm A Date That Means Something In Those Seasons (If You Have One) Then Make Sure It Won't Conflict With Your Schedule.

    =)

    Congrats & Good Luck.

  4. I would pick fall because there are different colors and the trees. You shouldn't be freezing if it's October. I would pick October because you aren't sweating and stuff.

  5. I prefer fall. Fall weddings are sooo beautiful. Summer weddings are just too hot. I'm from Mississippi...so it's super hot here. I'm getting married on December 28th...but that is pretty much our fall lately. Congrats. =]=]=]

  6. If you are getting married inside then heat shouldn't be a problem and it will still be warm for cocktail hour so i would go with Summer

  7. How about spring, still traditional, not too hot or cold, still green and lush and pretty for pictures, and you can do it during spring break and then have the time in the summer for a honeymoon. Just a suggestion.

  8. Summer months are really busy for halls for weddings. All the vendors are backed up because everyone is getting married during the summer. Fall weddings are beautiful. If you do the wedding early enough in the fall the weather won't be a huge issue. Pictures for fall weddings are beautiful. Summer is traditional but the fall is more memorable. You can still make a fall wedding traditional with decorations and your dress.

    Congrats and good luck!

  9. Since you have time off in the summer, I would definitely do it then. Even though its your wedding, it can be tough to get the time off since you are given so much other time. I would do it in august int he middle of your vacation. Then you can have lots of time off before and after too, you will love having the opportunity to relax instead of making sub plans and going back to school.  I want my wedding in the summer because my moms a teacher and I don't want her to have to beg for time off and so she can enjoy it more.

Have it indoors so that you don't have to worry about horrible heat, its smart to avoid the rain anyways. You can still use orange and red, I don't think its odd to have "off season" colors as long as its not red and green outside of December.

  10. Hi.  I can totally understand your dilemma.  I'm in upper Michigan.  We have the most beautiful fall...and nice summers....hmmm....it can get hot....but, then....fall can be cold!  What to do?

If I were you, since your weather is so similar to ours, would be to choose summer.  Yes, fall is nice...but it can be cold and/or rainy.  My daughter was married on October 2.  We thought it would be a beautiful fall day....it was downright cold!  She did have pics outdoors, and they turned out beautiful.....but she practically needed mittens on!

I would go with the summer because:

~ you are off and maybe can at least go somewhere for 2 nights for a honeymoon.

~ the weather is much more predictable.  You can work around heat....but cold weather....not so much.

If it was me...I would choose early August.  Good luck with your decision and I hope you have a good school year!

  11. mine is in fall just because thats the date we started dating. But I always dreamed of a summer wedding. Do it in June when you have the week off and just take some time to relax or go to the cape or something. I like in MA were are you? Or chose spring break. I am scared of freezing my butt off in sep!!! good luck
