  1. Hello Ethan,

Treat your HDD Camcorder as you would with any other pen drive or external hard disc.

When you connect your camcorder to the USB port, depending on the type of the camcorder, you could see that your camcorder has somewhat displayed as an USB external disc. Click on the icon and you will see various folder inside it. Each folder will have about 100 video clip together with some 'info' file.

I also copy this folder from the Camcorder to my PC Hard disc for editing purpose. The main reason is that after all the files are transferred in the computer, I could disconnect the camcorder from the PC.

Most HDD camcorder will use a .MOD file format to record your video footage. The Problem is that a standard Widow's PC would not be able to play these files. You need to install a CODEC (COder DECoder) to make your PC able to play the appropriate video. You could download for FREE K-LITE Video Codec from the Internet.

Next, get a GOOD video editing software. My personal preference is ULEAD VideoStudio Ver.11.5. If you are using Window's XP/Vista, Microsoft MovieMaker came with the operating system for FREE. Simple to use with limited features.

Hope that you find my answer helpful.

  2. well the simplest way is to drag and drop onto your desktop and fiddle from there.

since it's usb its a matter of treating the camera as a harddirve as far as your computer is concerned.

then, use movie maker to cut it together.

i use mac so thats as helpful as i can be.

    buy a mac!
