I have a moderatly inexpensive tutu with 8 layers & it is much too 'fluffy' & I would prefer it to lay flatter. I know that this is achieved by tacking. Please leave very Clear Instructions!!

thanks.

  1. First you need to lay the tutu out onto a flat surface.   Each layer should be lightly steamed to get out any wrinkles.

There are many variations of the techniques that you can use, but I will detail my favorite below.

    You will need:

Strong Thread that matches the tutu netting

and a long thin needle  (thin enough not to rip the tule, and long enough not to get lost between the layers as you sew through)

You will make a series of loops,  from the bottom of the tutu, through the layers, over the top,  back through the layers, and knotted at the bottom.    The loops should be about 2 inches wide.

The tighter you make the loops, and the more loops you make the flatter you will get the skirt.   You might have to do some experimenting to get it right.   You can always cut out the loops and start again.   The loops should be fairly loose, as you still want the tutu to move with your body, and you dont want the tule to pucker.

I usually  create the loops in rows,  radiating out from the center (body) of the skirt.   Around 6-8  rows should be sufficient, evenly spaced.   The first loop would be a couple of inches from the hip piece, and then continue with a new loop every 4-6 inches.   Dont go all the way to the outer edge,  stop several inches before the end of the longest layer.

    Good Luck.
