  1. I use a wire wheel and a drill or mini wire wheel and a dremel tool.

  2. Wire wool off what rust you can, then paint the metal work with metal to rust paint (silver). It won't last forever as it will wear off bit by bit, but will make your tool last that much longer.

  3. my gramps takes it off with coca cola, let the tools soak in it for a couple of hours and then scrub them....

  4. There is a cleaner I use on many different household items..called Barkeepers friend - you can buy it at walmart where they sale comet and other cleaners..anything I own that had rust on it this cleaner has safely removed it without problem and makes things shine like new once its clean.  It's something I use all the time around my house hope it works for you.

  5. You can spray metal with a penetrating lubricant such as WD-40 and then scrub with a nylon Scotch Brite pad. But be careful--I just cleaned up some old handsaws using this technique and all I had handy was a very stiff scrubbing pad. It scratched the metal. Next time I'll use a less agressive pad.  For serious rust problems there are acid-based rust removers such as Rust Free.

Here's how This Old Carpenter Norm Abram takes care of his metal tools:

  6. You can remove it mechanically or chemically.

Chemically, you use a product called navel jelly. You can get it at any hardware store. You brush it on, let it dry and wash it off.

Mechanically you can use a wire brush, steel wool or even fine sand paper. After you remove the rust you will need to apply WD-40 or a VERY light coat of oil to keep the tools from oxidizing again.

  7. if there realy bad I sand blast em
