Question:

How Do You Teach Yourself To Sing?

Seriously! I need to know! I don't want to go and splurge by hiring a teacher.

How can I figure out what kind of a voice I have, and how to sing really good. Is there free online lessons?

Please help me!

I'm trying out for a choir, and I need to be excellent, and SOON!

Thanks and God Bless!

  1. Look up Solfege. You'll assign syllables to different notes (Do Re Mi Fa...) , and basically memorize how each syllable sounds, so that when you sing you just think about the syllables.

If you want to figure out what type of voice you have, find the highest and lowest notes you can hit comfortably (sing "Ah"). Do it with a piano or a virtual piano online and see where you are, and then look up the ranges for bass, baritone, tenor, and soprano and see which you are.

  2. You need to be realistic. You can try and do things by yourself or online, but if you really want to sing and "be excellent" you need to take some lessons. If you don't learn proper technique and placement you will damage your voice. A singing teacher will help you and teach you and you will find that your quality of tone, range, and power will increase and your voice will develop.

  3. No matter what your voice can't be incredible in a matter of days are a week or two. Your voice will have to adjust to the constant practice and can only take very little time towards practice or it well get strained and you will have to stop for a few days. One of the keys to singing is the breathing, it changes everything. Always remember to sing from the diaphragm(stomach area). Never breath through your nose either. To figure out kind of voice you have use a piano or something alike and go up the notes one by one. This will help you figure out your current range and whether or not you are a soprano, alto, etc. You can go to expert village for some good tutorial on singing and other things. Good luck!

  4. practise makes a man perfect! I never knew how to sing until I started practising more and more and now i can sing really well.Trust me i never asked anyone a question about this.So yea keep practising and good luck.

  5. i agree with everyone else that you need to practice at it, but this might help you just as a starting point:
