Question:

How Do i get Microsoft paint working again?

Whenever i click on it, a little thing pops up that says choose the program you want to use to open this file: and i click paint, and it says c:\WINDOWS\system\mspaint.exe

paint cannot read this file.

this is not a valid bitmap file, or its format is not currently supported.

Please help me im stuck!

  1. I guarantee you won't have any problems getting paint working again by reinstalling Windows.


  2. two fixable things:

    1. Check the system requirements. If that's the problem, upgrade as needed.

    2. There's most likely some missing files in the program folder needed to keep paint running. Either they were accidently deleted or virus came and deleted some random files. Try reinstalling paint.

    if those two don't work, contact microsoft.

  3. Are you trying to open up a file in paint that is not a picture?

  4. It could be corrupted in your registry. I wouldn't waste too much time trying to fix a sub-par program unless you want to reformat Windows. I recommend GIMP, it has many features of Photoshop and costs nothing.

    GIMP is the GNU Image Manipulation Program. It is a freely distributed piece of software for such tasks as photo retouching, image composition and image authoring.
