  1. The options are limitless. You can attach different things to your piece or crochet in the the letter or object in the piece, such as filet crochet. Suggestion would be to make squares with each item crocheted in them. Everyone knows what a light bright is. When crocheting an object in your square, it is like a light bright. You start with your background color yarn and add the color of your object as the square is crocheted.  Example: Your square is green background and your baseball  is white. Another example is a crossword puzzle for letters, each square has a letter and once the word is complete you attach them together like granny squares. If you are not experienced, I would find a pattern and buy it. This would help you tremendously. These patterns have a materials list, a graph, stitch gauge, definition and instructions of stitches not used often. If you are a seasoned crocheter, I would make my own pattern. Just keep your number count,

and write it down as you crochet. This piece can be all about you and your boyfriend. Good Luck and enjoy your work as you crochet!

  2. There are lots of options. the easiest is to make your blanket and then cross stitch over the stitches with a pattern that is meaningful to him. That may be a sports team logo, his initials, his favorite car, etc. single crochet especially lends itself to cross stitch.

You can also crochet little appliques that are appropriate to your boy friend's interests. Say he is interested in Marine Life, you can make fish, dolphins, star fish, etc, and then stitch on to the blanket.

To make it easier, when working on a large project, you can make large squares, or panels, that incorporate your boyfriends interest.  You can make anything in crochet and cross stitch, so you will have infinite options. What to choose is the hardest thing!

What a nice gift for him, I am impressed with you generosity.
