How Does The Aga Khan Institution Differ From Conventional Islamic Faith?

I am asking this because I was told by an Aga Khan member that they also recite the Gayatri Mantra (hindu prayer).....Can any Muslim clarify?

  1. The Aga Khan's group are Ismaelis whose religion is Shia Islam.  However, they are a bit more broadminded than the Ayatollahs.  I haven't come across them using the Gayatri Mantra, but there would probably be no objection is an individual wanted to add it to his prayers.
