How Does someone become a National News TV Anchor?

Question

So I am majoring in Broadcast Journalism.

I want to be a TV News Anchor.

My dream is to be like the next Wolf Blitzer, or Anderson Cooper or someone like that....but if I don't make it, it won't kill me.

So how does someone get to be where they are.

Is it from just working my way up, or do I need to leave behind Journalism and become a professional buttkisser. :)
