Whenever I look at my bumblebee tuna cans it says dolphin safe. How did that even come to be? How can you tell you got dolphin in your tuna? How dolphin safe is it exactly? Did someone one day open a can up and flippers nose was hanging out or something?

  1. "Dolphin Safe" mean that they claim to use a technique or net that wont entrap and drowned Dolphins.   It doesn't have to do with having Dolphin meat in the tuna.  The Tuna is all processed with a lot of human handling and observation, something the size of a Dolphin couldn't "slip through".

  2. i just recently got sick because of bad tuna

  3. Dolphin safe just means they supposedly have nets that do not catch dolphins with the tuna.  You won't get 'dolphin' IN your tuna.  They are just letting you know they are taking care not to kill dolphins while fishing for tuna.  :)

  4. dolphin safe thats funny sounding

  5. Very safe now.  Watch tuna catchers on discovery.

  6. lol it is because of the type of net used during the fishing process they used to catch and kill allot of dolphins with the old net styles now they don't use and save the dolphins

  7. im sure they lie but who cares

  8. doesn't that mean that they use certain nets so that dolphins can't get caught in them???

mind you the other day when i opened my can of tuna, i could almost swear there was a blowhole thingy in the middle of it

  9. It means that the fishermen take extra care to not net any dolphins when they fish for the tuna. If one is caught, it's released back into the sea, rather than not bothering, like some fishermen do.

It's a nice comfort for people who think that, somehow, a dolphin life's is more worthwhile and valuable than a tuna's life. Then again, it's also a reassurance that your tuna providers haven't killed what they need not.

    Environmentalist thing, in other words.
