Question:

How Far Should Government Go In Our Personal Lives?

Whether it is laws for or against abortion or birth control, whether it is funding for Abstinence programs, what right has government to dabble in the personal lives and sexual lives of our citizens?

President Bush has just promoted a law extending Abstinence Programs for Young People for five more years. This has not yet approved by Congress. The Abstinence Program has not been successful in the past.

Why is the Republican Party on the forefront of these efforts to bring more government control into our lives? They fine TV stations for cursing, yet promote vicious Ads for elections. They promote their religious beliefs, under the guise of government programs. Wishing everyone shared their beliefs is one thing, promoting it into Law is another. Do you believe government should stay out of our bedrooms, confining their duties to tending the country's prosperity and wellbeing?

  1. Are you 11 or maybe 13? That is what your purile silliness sounds like. Abortion is murder, abstiinence is good, morality is not a matter of opinion(very little in life is). When and if you grow up you may understand.

  2. Let me see if I get this straight...You do not want other peoples interpretation of Gods  word placed on you, but you want your interpretation placed on others?

Typical liberal...its all OK, as long as its YOUR opinion.

The first poster was right...do what you want behind closed doors, but once it comes into the public domain, then its all of our business.

The simple fat is, the only way to 100% control disease, STD's, unwanted preganacy etc is through abstinence.

If you wantr to let your child have s*x at 10 with another male, thats your pathetic business.

The rest of us still have these things called morals.

And its not just the "republicans". Plenty of democrats, particularly in the south, believe what "republicans beleive. That was proven in 2004 and 2004 and will be again in 2008.

One day the democratic party will realize the freak lifestyle, as seen  in San Francisco, does not represent America.

  3. You are exactly what I expect a good liberal to be. Afraid of limits and restrictions being put on your life. Example: The Ten Commandments. There's a restriction you liberals can't take. What is it exactly you don't like?

We don't care what you do in your bedroom. Just don't try to tell my children, or any one else publicly it's all OK. There's another restriction for you. Too bad!

How perfectly predictable...Your interpretation, not God's! There's that old restriction popping up again. You are what is wrong with liberalism.

  4. strangely enough, i'm going to agree with the first poster (to a very limited degree)... ,  "You are exactly what I expect a good liberal to be."  you have a heart, a soul, and a mind.  some of us appreciate it M, keep it up.

as to your question, i'll say this about that:  US OUT of my personal life.

"the Republican Party [is] on the forefront of these efforts" because the party has been taken over by neocons.  it is not historically republican party policy to promote government intervention in our personal lives.  this is (one of the reasons) why many former republicans feel left out in the cold, pushed out of their party by ultra rightist agenda.  i have to assume that this, in part, is why so many supported ms clinton in this campaign, as she was the only true republican running this time around.  now they are disenfranchised, left with john sydney mccain, who does not represent their values, but panders to the hard core right wing neocons.  on the upside mccain is floundering trerribly.
