  1. there are two airports in or near barcelona BRC and Girona

  2. Best way from the airport into the centre of Barcelona is the train.

When you leave the airport you'll see an long elevated walkway to the railway station. There are 3 stops to Barcelona Sants which is in the centre of the city.

  3. Barcelona has only one Airport.

It is called, not surprisingly Barcelona International Airport, or El Prat to the locals. It is situated only about 40 minutes from the city centre by taxi. ( I have done it in 20 minutes once!).The bus is great and cheap, but you will need a taxi at Placa Catalunya to get to your hotel. So just take a taxi.no stress.

Girona Airport and Reus Airport are not even in the Province of Barcelona but about 60 miles away!

Taxis are cheap for a major city. Take the taxi, it is not worth the hastle not to do so.

Car hire. Do not hire a car to explore the city. The driving is too different for the average US driver. Londoners can manage. Anyway, who wants stress after the 'Sand Pit'?

If you want to explore the countryside, a car is necessary, but why bother, the weather has turned wet and there's lots to see in town. You can always take the train to Sitges, if you want to see a bit of the Costa Dorada coast and walk in fresh air but I suppose that sand is the last thing someone wants to see.

Enjoy the break you really deserve it!

  4. The airport of Barcelona (BCN) is El Prat. Besides of the bus service to Ronda Universitat exists also a train service every 30 minutes from the Airport to the center of the city (Plaza Cataluña) and on. After baggage claim is also a turist office. I highly recomend to contact it. They will give you more information than you can bear, including the bus/train service into town. They will also explain you how to get to your hotel. DON´T WORRY! Most probably they will also supply you with a map of the city center.

As a break from the sand, you can go to Mont Serrat by a kind of suburb train, change the train and go up to the monastry by another train. At the station of FGV (local train company) at plaza España you can buy the ticket all the way up to the monastry. If you want to stay in town, take the pass for the turist busses. I think there are three lines in the meantime. Those buses bring you to all the places to visit. Barcelona also has beaches.

As I wrote before, contact the turist office!!!! and enjoy your stay.

    Welcome to Spain!
