Do you walk or bicycle? Do you have a garden(but drive across town to get supplies)? Do you recycle/reuse your own stuff(or send it away in big smelly trucks)? Do you own a TV, Wii, MP3, anything that uses throw-away batteries, a computer??

  1. I generally walk to the shop but if i go to the shopping center which is ten miles away i use the bus. I try to recycle as much as possible. I own an Xbox 360, tv, MP3 player and a pc and i use re-chargeable batteries.

  2. As a BushHitlerburton NeoConRepug, I'm motivated to consume less because I'm cheap!

I ask the family to use cloth towels (not paper), to turn off the lights when anyone leaves a room for an extended period of time, to pass clothes and sports equipment from one kid to the next when they're not worn out or hyper-foul, to turn down the heat, to eat leftovers until the fridge is bare, etc.

However, it's not to please you, Earth First or Leo DiCaprio. It's to save a buck.

  3. We use LaundryPure which helps the environment by eliminating the need for detergents which contaminate waste water, and the need for hot water which saves energy from not heating water.

It kills germs without bleach, helps eliminate allergic reaction due to detergent residue, makes whites whiter and colors brigher, gets towels softer and fluffier and helps clothes last longer while saving money and the environment.

  4. You are right on the money on this one, true Greenness cannot exist in the modern urban lifestyle that depends on mass transportation systems, energy distribution and mechanized food production.  Some of the only true Greenies out there are otherwise called "Amish" and all of these pontificating leftists who think we are going to save the planet by eating organic vegetables need to spend a week at an Amish farm before they make themselves look even stupider than they have already.

  5. Pretty green, although I'm probably not perceived as such by the "tree huggers". Just because I don't run around in birkenstock sandals and tie-die, shouting slogans & carrying signs, or belong to Greenpeace, doesn't mean that I do not have a genuine interest in leaving the planet better than I found it.

I own a large pickup truck, but paid $3500 extra to get the efficient diesel engine w/ 2x the fuel economy. I also have a 31+mpg auto that I drive as much as I can and only use the truck for hauling. Both are well maintained. Can't really bicycle, as I am in miles from anything, just don't drive if I don't have to.

PS: there is NO "zero emission" vehicle. My tailpipe is on the back of my car, an electric vehicle's tailpipe is the smokestack of a utility's generator somewhere else, and then you have to recycle the batteries..................................

I do not subscribe to a trash service, and recycle. I end up discarding 2-3 bags of garbage at the local land fill /yr. The first step is to buy in bulk and not buy items that have bulky packaging.

    I compost.

I have installed compact flourescent lights in the house (and yes, there is a recycling stream for these in place). I also use LCD panels when you don't need to turn a light on in a room. elec bill is about $30 /mo.

Although I heat with coal, I have an 87% efficent furnace, I also keep the house @ 59F in the winter. (north east US)

All my batteries are rechargeable, and I recycle them when they fail.

I have applied for a permit to install a 5.25 Kv solar system, but that is stuck in gov't red -tape.

I reuse everything, and some times other people's cast off's, then recycle it.

I don't buy any food packaging that is single serving or styrofoam if possible.

The real secret to energy smart living (listen up Al Gore) is to actually USE LESS, of everything, and find ways to use what you need to in a smarter fashion. I see & hear people ranting that "some one " should do something. They seem as if they do not want to take ownership of there own energy use, and do not wish to alter their lifestyles accordningly.

  7. I have parked my second car.  I make lists of things I need from the grocery market, the hardware store, the lumber yard, the clothier, the pharmacy, the housewares store, and I combine all those errands into one shopping trip a week instead of doing as I did in the past and running to the store virtually every day.  I use appliances that run on AC current or use rechargeable batteries.  I keep the thermostat at 65 all winter and wear a sweater indoors when it feels chilly.  I do not water my lawn or wash my car.  I have no space for a garden, but I buy as much of my produce as I can from the local farmer's market.  I have learned to "put food by" and am one of the makers of Mason jars best customers.  Fer instance, I just finished home canning forty pints of apple butter, which delicious product will be Christmas gifts to my kids and grandkids.  I will shortly take up my rifle - a cap-and-ball, black powder, single-shot weapon I built myself - and head out to bag a deer, which will feed us for five months or more.  I've two nice fat turkeys in the freezer and have given my ex-wife two fully cleaned and dressed geese for her holiday table.  Yeah, I help the lady out - I don't hate her, I just can't live with her.  And I've given my kids fish I've caught and dressed all season long.

I even switched from heating oil to natural gas to keep me house reasonably warm during these harsh upstate New York winters.  How's about you - what're you doing to protect the environment?

  8. All of the green lifestyles I've read about in Yahoo! Answers, without exception, involve the pontificator causing a net INCREASE in atmospheric greenhouse gases.  Green Living is nothing more than a means for ex hippies to control other peoples lives.

  9. My family is big on this. We all got hybrids and rarely ever drive only if its somewhere far. We all ride bikes very often? We dry our clothes in the air not in a dryer and we only do loads that are full of laudnry. That also includes dishwashing only completely full loads. We turn the lights off at night, during the day and if we were no in the room. We changed themt to flourescent. We recycle everything from plastic, cans, tins, carboard, and paper. When painting teh house we used (Go Green) paint a paint that will not put chemical in to the air. In our local library they have a reuse, recycle and reduce room wehre kids can make sculture and painting to show off they can reuse and reduce. My 3 kids had made a total of 9 scultures and 6 flat collages with garbage that is now art. I also bought my kdis banana notebook paper which is 1--% ecoefficient.  I also never go out of town to shop, for clothes food, or anything for that matter. I also bought windmill in a windfarm fro my house. Also all the appliances in my house are energy star. In front of all my doorways ar e blockers so if heat is on no air can come through and no air can go out. In my backyard we planted10 trees and there was allready 5 out there. Yes we have a computer band a tv but thats all. Im the green queen.

  10. I´m as green as my life allows. I live in rural Spain. I occasionally cycle but there are mountains everywhere. I drive a 4x4 vehicle because of the terrain and occasionally the weather. I dump the garden waste on spare ground exactly the same as the locals. I have a TV but only for watching DVD´s. I can only recycle bottles as there are no facility for anything else. I fly upto 4 times a year (8 flights), I heat my home with a log fire but have no central heating. Apart from that I do my best.

  11. I recycle my cans and bottles, but not my jars and cardboard and tin cans (like chili comes in).  I switched all my lightbulbs to flourescent, but I tend to leave my lights on too much.  I walk, I rarely rarely ever drive.  I'm extremely pale green, I guess, but hey it's better than nothing, and I aim to get even better, but without being a t**d about it and judging other people's behaviors.

  12. I try, but it isn't easy.... Especially living on the outskirts of town; everything is really far away-too far to bicycle.

Sometimes I feel like the efforts aren't worth the result because even if I am completely green..to perfection..there are still industries that pollute 1,000 times more than I ever could....so, why bother? Crappy way of thinking, I know, but I'm sure others can relate.

  13. The extent of my being "green" is that I recycle glass, plastics, paper and (sometimes) batteries.  I should be more resourceful but it is much more convenient for me to go to the supermarket and buy my vegetables, etc.
