Question:

How Hard Would It Be?

OK so in our animal control kennel (we only have one outdoor kennel where they house strays) there is a sweet natured red and white pitbull mix, she was picked up a few days ago and the owners have already admitted they have no plans of picking her up, the poor dog right now is living alone in her own p**p because our animal control sucks. My question is my mom has said she would pay the fine to get the dog if i could find her a home...so how hard do you think it would be to re home a 4 month old puppy that looks like a red and white pit bull with bigger ears?

The poor dogs got only a week left before she gets put down and it's heartbreaking to know at 4months she's gunna suffer because her old owners no longer want her.

  1. Your compassion is admirable, but I think it will be harder than you think.  Except that the dog is young.

Placing a pit-bull is really tough, they have that reputation of being violent child-attacking dogs.  In fact, if owners take the time to properly train the dog to be compassionate and obedient then they are just as caring as other dogs, but most pit-bull owners want the fear factor and therefore do nothing and the dog becomes nasty.  Maybe  that's why the original owners parted with it. Though at four months they probably decided they didn't want to deal with house training it.

I'd look for a dog lover with one pet already who is looking for a companion for their dog. Someone willing to train and care for a special needs dog.

  2. she sounds like a total sweet heart, and your animal control dosent sound the greatest place ~

but i think you can find her a home pretty easy, a baby pup uncropped ears, she sounds beautiful, put fliars at your vet, pet stores, groomers.

good luck she sounds beautiful and i hope she dsnt get put down so oyung.

  3. o that's soo sad...depending on where you live its should be pretty easy especially since its a puppy..I think your doing a great thing by saving this poor puppy from being put to sleep, it never asked to be brought into this world and have horrible owners that will throw him away like trash...You can put flyer's out and ask vets if you can put them up in their clinics

  4. That's so sad! It may be a little more difficult to find a home for this dog because it is a pit bull and they kind of have a bad rap lately. But you should put an ad in some free classifieds online - craigslist or a Super Shopper type thing. Free things go very quickly on those types of sites. It might be your best chance. You could put the ad up now before you even have the dog and see what the interest is like.

  5. Go to petfinder.com and look for rescues in your area.  Ask them if they would do a courtesy post for you.  That's when they will post your dog's info, but provide your name as contact.

    Good luck!

  6. well it is varried depending on who wants this kind of dog.  I would ask the animal resque leage if u can use there site to post a picure of her or jus post on in the newspaper yourself and then see how many peoople are interested but it sounds like i wotn be too hard i o work at animal resque league and we should at least ne able to send the dog to anouther aread if she cant get help there

  7. If your Mom is willing, I would take the dog and start working with her. Since she is only 4 months old, she's practically a blank canvas. Train her well and find her a new home...or keep her! Don't let her be put down.

  8. You should not have a hard time finding a home for the pup. Just make sure she goes to someone who is going to be responsible you don't want her in the same place 6 months from now.

  9. I don't think that it will be hard at all to find her a home. But you definetly have to be careful of who takes the dog. If you do take her home, and I hope you do because your right that's a sin that should happen to a puppy just because her owners are irresponsible. I know where I live people love pitbulls, but to be sure the same thing doesn't happen with different owners have an interview with the people and even get references, it's a bit of a pain but well worth it!

  10. Are you sure that you guys can't keep her? I don't know, it might be kind of hard to find loving parents for a pit bull in a week. Maybe you can keep the dog at your house for awhile, and then try and get her a new home. You can always try putting ads in the newspaper. Good luck!
