How Hard is it to Become a Airline Pilot?

how Hard is it to become a pilot for an Airline and also just for you private licence how hard im not sure? how much Maths do you need to know?

Air Force. And it's freaking hard. You dont choose a profession because of how easy it is to do, you do it because you absolutely love it. Follow you're passion and you'll never work a day of your life.

a commercial grade will cost around $60,000min. i have a student licence can fly within 10 miles of my local airport with one passanger and thats cost me approx $5000 so far.

Becoming a pilot can be a challenging experience and requires hard work, commitment and money. However, it is not impossible and does not require one to be flithy rich or a genius.

As an aside, "Licence" is the proper spelling in Canada and the UK, whereas "License" is the proper spelling in the US. Therefore, depending where the original poster was from, that spelling may have been correct.

If you live in Canada or the US, there are 3 main routes to doing your training:

1 - Through a local flight school

2 - Through a University or College Aviation Program

3 - The military

If you go through a University Program or the military, onto of maintaining a relatively high academic average, you will be required to use a lot of math. Going through the local flight school route, there is a fair bit of math involved, but most of it is not super complicated. The type of math invovled usually involves conversions, fractions and ratios, angles, addition, subtraction and multiplication.

The military and University Programs will usually deal with more technical aspects which will require you to learn more advance math.

Once you get your licence however, you don't automatically become an airline pilot. Most pilots have to work for a number of years building hours and gaining experience before they are ready to fly for an airline. Many countries offer 'cadet programs' that take brand new pilots and train them so they can directly fly an airliner, but that's not very common in North America.

Prices can vary across North America and depending on what route you take. Some Colleges in the Province of Ontario are subsidized by the Government. There are also many options for obtaining loans to complete your flight training. Just keep in mind that the pay for pilots for the first few years is extremely low. Much depends on what you mean by "hard".  You will definately need math skills, and be quite good at them.  Definately college level algebra, but that should be enough math (IE: no calculus required).  Probably the most difficult part will be how expensive it is.  It's definately NOT cheap to get a pilots license.  And it takes a lot of flight hours, and additional endorsements.  You work your way up, small planes to larger planes.  And then you'll be faced with a lot of competition getting a job with almost any airline.  Why?  There's a lot of pilots, with all of these qualificatiions, and much more than you will ever be able to get, out there.  And by that, I mean there's a LOT of retired military pilots out there, looking for those same jobs.  And most of them fly airplanes like F-16's, B-1 bombers, oh my, the list is almost endless.  

     The absolutely best way to be a pilot is to sign up for the Air Force, Navy, Marines, IE: the US Military.  But you have to qualify for officer training school, and then you got to get in.  Then, about a 5 or 10 year commitment.  And that's how you'll get a job with an airline.  

     Is that "hard"?

Well.. Dunno much about how much mathematics you need but yes the tests to become a pilot are very stringent and you must be able to specify with almost all the norms to become a pilot.

Some of the specifications include good health with good eyesight, ability to take quick decisions, sound technical knowledge, should not panic in emergency situations, etc etc...

they go on and you need to clear almost all of them to get a pilot license.

However, its no that hard too coz you never know what you become unitl you try.

Some time in their life almost every young boy wants to be a pilot. Very few ever do. If you want to be successful in what ever it is you become stay in school, study hard and get good grades. Go to college or university and get a degree. Then you will be prepared to be successful. And if becoming a pilot  is what you actually become, you are among the few and fortunate. Just remember, however, if you ever start to mess around with drugs, you can kiss becoming a pilot good bye.

it is very expensive! my friend is trying to become one. when getting your private license it cost about $100/hour and than afte you get that you go to school which he was trying to get into one that cost like $80000. Do if you are rich it is easy! but you can also get loans. GL
