  1. Its pretty easy, most people land an airplane in the first 5 lessons, (with instructor) and solo in 15-20 hrs. But there is a learning curve and you have to get the feel for it.

  2. The trick is to never give up and fly it all the way to the tie downs.

Gusty winds make final approach and landing more difficult, especially in a light aircraft. A few tips that I can remember from my flying days:

    1. Trim the airplane. Do this all the time, so you are never fighting the controls.

    2. Loosen up. If you are squeezing the stick in a nervous, tight, grip, you will not react properly when it's time to do so.

    3. Maintain a steady picture on final. Don't raise the nose prematurely. This is the toughest part, because it requires good depth perception.

    4. Maintain your airspeed.

    5. Set up a slip if you are in a crosswind.

Sounds easier than it is. But it's like riding a bicycle or playing a guitar. Takes practice. Don't give up, but stay safe.

  4. You might think of it this way......

It becomes the same as driving a car.  With practice, your flying skills become natural to you.  All your reactions become easy and simple.  It's like you can get used to almost anything, eventually.
