  1. it all depends on what year you want to start from and what aspect you want to look at farming today is very modern 100 years ago farming was very primitive horse drawn equipment open pollinated seeds and only manure for fertilizer today not only do we have mechanical equipment but use GPS to drive the equipment auto steering for example hybrid seeds as in all corn varieties or geneticaly modified as in roundup ready soybeans

  2. It has become more productive.

  3. American agriculture has changer dramatically over the years. All of it not for the best, I'm afraid. As little as 50 to 70 years ago the American farms have gone from from small family farms  that were a way of life for the entire family, to larger more commercial farms. They are producing more food than ever before but the lifestyle has changed. The small family farms are starting to make a come back as specialty farms.  The American farmer is is alive and well and still the best farmers in the world. They keep America well supplied with relatively cheap food and clothing. They produce enough surplus grain to keep America in a positive export status overall. American farming has come a long way from the simple plantings of the Native Americans to the massive farms of today. It has not all been a smooth road, but I think America is still in good hands.

  4. When my dad was a young man, it was known that "If you can't do anything else, you can always farm."  Now, it's "If you can't farm, you can always do something else."  Technology and the finances required have changed farming completely.
