  1. it really depends on the horse- there are some ponies that can jump nearly 6 feet, and some warmbloods who have difficulty getting over 2'6" fences. my advice is to start small and adjust the jumps a couple of inches every few months(increments of 3 inches are most common), making sure your horse is happy and comfortable with every height. if you rush this process, your horse might have lameness issues, plus it can be dangerous to you. if you succeed over, say, 2'3" and are jumping regularly, invest in a nice pair of protective boots for your horse- arabians tend to have especially thin and fragile legs.

  2. I would say she could go very high, as high as she is willing and feeling healthy enough to go. Maybe even up to about 5 feet, but I would move up slowly. Her training has to be gradual. :)

  3. It depends.

    I use to ride a 13.1/13.2hand pony who I jumped 3ft with.

I know someone who has a 14.2 or 14.3 hand horse who can jump 4'10" (lunging) and the jump is bigger than the horse!

It doesn't matter the height, unless they are super short. It depends on her muscle, agility, and how much she likes it. Some horses don't like jumping and will trot anything they can, some will jump a small crossrail like it is 3ft.

  4. Again, however high the horse wants. I would say, if she's willing, 4 1/2 feet, tops. Just remember: a horse can jump higher WITHOUT a rider. So, say you see your mare jump 4 feet, don't try to jump her 4 feet. Most horses can clear 1 -1 1/2 feet higher without a rider.

  5. :)

I also have an Arabian Mare (part Saddlebred mare) and she's a game little jumper mare. She's only 15.1hh and wasn't 'made' to jump, but I've successfully jumped 3'3 with her. Granted, she delicately tapped the rail with her front legs, but even my trainer remarked "she's not even trying!"

If you can recall, there was a jumper gelding I believe, and his name was Grasshopper. He wasn't an Arabian, but he was only about 15.1hh, and jumped along with the best of them.

I don't believe in jumping your horse higher and higher until it quits, but you can generally see how they move over smaller fences (2'6, or lower) a height where a horse's bascule isn't needed. If she's struggling to get over it, or she's just lazily throwing her feet up, you can try the fences higher or lower. It's all a guessing game. :)

    Have fun jumping your mare!

  6. i used to jump an arab mare in and out of the barn yard over the gate, i think it really depends on the horse.

  7. As high as the horse can. I wouldn't push her to jump unusually high, as it can hurt her legs and if you are on board, you could get hurt.

  8. Like some of the others said, it depends on the horse! It also depends on the horse's conformation, the stride length, shoulder angles, and how much the just like to do it.

  9. As the first person said, as high as she'll go.

There is the famous Theodore O'connor, Karen O'conner's POA that she rode eventing.  Here is a pic http://pets.webshots.com/photo/231331346...  A little guy with large ability.

Here is an excert about Arabians in eventing: The 2004 Athens Olympic Three-Day-Event competition was of great interest to Arabian enthusiasts because amongst the competitors was a Purebred Arabian horse from Brazil and a brilliant Anglo Arabian from Great Britain, TAMARILLO, bred by the Guinness family of Biddesden Stud, and ridden by a leading British rider, William Fox-Pitt. Tamarillo had won the world-renowned Badminton 3DE earlier in the year, as well as a bronze medal with the British team at the 2002 World Equestrian Games in Spain.

So really...no one knows...  Good luck!

If anyone says...oh she'll never go over...don't listen to them.  Let it drive you all the more.  I think that Karen and Teddy would say the same.  : )

  10. 1. as high as she wants. horses who like jumping /can jump safely can usually jump as high as 6foot if you wanted to train them to go that high.

    2. you're lucky to have an arab who can jump. most to all the arabs in my area do not jump, they're not known for their jumping.
