How I can get to the lady liberty in NY from CT by train?

I am from Boston, but I think to take my family to the lady Liberty, and some people advise me to take a train from CT, because is cheap that ride in my own car.

    Steps 1 & 2: drive to Metro-North's New Haven-State St or Union St and purchase ticket to Grand Central from ticket vending machine or ticket office which cost $18.50 peak $37 round trip peak and off-peak $14 and off-peak round trip $27 to avoid higher pay if you purchase from conductor.

    Step 3: Take train to last stop, Grand Central.

    Step 4: Follow the sign to 4/5/6.

    Step 5: From MetroCard Vending Machine, select regular card, new, other amount, then put in 400 for $4, then click enter.

    Subways are $2.

    Step 6: Once you enter subway, look for sign that says, Downtown & Brooklyn.

    Step 7: Take Brooklyn-bound (4) or (5) express to Bowling Green.

    Step 8: When it arrive at Bowling Green, get off and use south exit toward Battery Park, and you'll have to go to Castle Clinton to get ferry ticket before you go on CirceLine to Miss Liberty.
