I was wondering how I would go about simulating that really nice old timey grainy sound from the golden age of radio on my computer. What kind of audio program would I use?

I'm looking for that War of the Worlds type of sound or how this sounds: http://youtube.com/watch?v=wE58Y2LETAs

Any help would be appreciated!

  1. You might be able to do it with the sound controls in your control panel. It depends on what kind of stuff your computer has on board.

You can get the background free or cheap on one of the SFX (sound effects) websites (just use your favorite search engine).

Same with a simple program to control your EQ. Remove the bass and most of the mid-range and play with the upper registers 'til you get it where you want it. I'd plug "audio control panel" into a search engine, I'm sure several freeware or sharewear programs will come up. If I have more time later, I'll add an edit to this answer with any that I can find.
