The Notebook & Love Actually are dead certs, and you'll find them a little less painful than most sappy movies.

If you're more into indie style of film, try 2 Days in Paris - beautiful film & hilarious! Dan in Real Life is more a family/romance but don't let that put you off as it's very smart. Chocalat is also often overlooked but come on - it's got chocolate, Johnny Depp and is set in France!

Also try a search 'romantic movies' on Answers as there's plenty of threads on this topic. Just try and steer clear of anything starring Mandy Moore, Drew Barrymore, anyone that has played a doctor on TV and bloody Diane Keaton ( barring Annie Hall of course).
