  1. we are doing healthy foods now - we invited in a nutrition specialist to talk with the children about eating a variety of foods and then we made a delicious fruit dip together with vanilla pudding, milk and cool whip and put it over apples, oranges, bananas, grapes, etc.  Literature was sent home with the kids for their parents about what they learned that day and the recipe for the fruit dip. The kids gobble it up!

we also made a placemat with one food from each food group on it for them to take home and use.

  2. Include a healthy, simple, child friendly way to increase nutrients in the family's diet or how to avoid sodas, fatty foods, etc.

Include a rule at the beginning where the children are not allowed to bring unhealthy foods as a part of their lunch boxes or snacks.

    Avoid food as a treat.

Encourage kids to try fruits and vegetables.  I have a "one bite rule" with my kids.  They have to try at least one bite of each food they are given at lunch.  Now given a hamburger or mixed vegetables, we both know which one they go for first.  At least now they pick their favorite veggie out of the mixed vegetable.

Now, this is not exactly worthy, but if they finish their milk it's the only time they are allowed to burp without a verbal scolding.  Hey, hey- at least they are drinking it now.

Each time we are reading a new book, etc. I point out food references and we classify them as healthy vs junk.
