  1. You will probably have a day or two before the tryout where you learn material.  You will most likely be required to perform anywhere from 1 to 3 jumps, the highest tumbling skill that you can perform alone, a cheer or chant, and splits.  If you try out in groups, you might have to perform a stunt together.  It is also common for a coach to ask you to make up a cheer or chant to show your ability to be creative and confident.  Just remember to show a good attitude.  Be respectful of other cheerleaders as well as coaches.  Don't wear shorts that are too short or a top that shows your stomach.  Make sure your hair is up and out of your face.  You should wear a bow in your hair to go the extra mile.  No nail polish or jewelery.  Pay attention and ask questions if you are confused.  Make sure to always stand in the front of the group so that the coach recognizes your face right away.  Coaches want athletes who are coachable and pleasent to be around, so smile a lot.  Good luck!

  2. right there in front of the coach..the cheerleaders that are already on the team show you a routine that you have to follow. and be prepared for some very hard working! and I hope you know how to tumble (gymastics) because you at least have to have your roundoff backhandspring!!

  3. All schools are different. Ours had some of the highschool girls come in and show us the cheer, sideline, and dance that we had to learn, and we just practiced w/ them afterschool until tryouts. And yes, the coaches were watching. Honestly, they don't care if you mess up, what they're looking for is to see that you can fix it easily. I'm not sure what it's like as a 10th grader, but like I said, it varies by school. Good luck! Cheers!
