How Jose Mourinho's Inter Milan won the Champions League Final Secret is out
Bayern Munich
Facing an ultra-defensive and organized Inter Milan team, Bayern Munich quickly understood that ball possession was not going to be good enough to win the game. Taken by surprise by every Nerazzuri counter attack, a sloppy and tired Bayern defense payed the price and drowned.
Bayern's game
Louis van Gaal must have studied many long days and many sleepless nights Inter Milan way of playing the game of champions. He must have seen what the Maestro, Jose Mourinho did in the home and away semi final against Barcelona. Van Gaal was given a chance by his ex-student to see what the student has set up, a perfect match between the master and the karate kid.
On the night of the Champions League final, Inter Milan actually played the same way than they did in the semi final. As the Catalans did, Louis Van Gaal and his men had pretty much most of the ball possession. Or maybe you could say that Inter Milan were so confident in their defense they let Bayern keep the ball. As much it might seem easy on paper to win duels against Inter and find solutions, it is almost hard and impossible to make it happen in reality.
The Germans were given a reality check on the pitch of the Santiago Bernabeu in Madrid. They constantly had the ball at their feet but were just not able to create opportunities to score and in the same time defend effectively against Inter's counter attacks. Those counter attacks seemed so easy and natural for the Inter players and it showed the efficiency of the team in that sector. At counter attacking, Diego Milito was king and had his best Saturday of this year and probably of his career. He scored 2 goals as the Bayern Munich defense could not do much but just watch and despair.
Inter Milan
One notch above Bayern, Inter Milan wins the 2010 UEFA Champions League. Perfectly supported by Eto'o, Cambiasso, Maicon and Sneijder, Diego Milito was once again the most important player on the field. At the end , it is the collective effort that Jose Mourinho has created for 2 years. The Special One does it again and creates history, let's face it the man is football genious.
Jose Mourinho's game plan
Perfectly organized in a 4-2-3-1, Inter Milan delivered the goods with their unique signature on it. Except for a few opportunities, Bayern Munich was never able to crack the Inter defense, like their predecessors in 2010: Chelsea and FC Barcelona.
Once again, Inter opted for a defense made of titanium to win the game. The Nerazzurri let go of the ball and gave away ball possession to Bayern Munich. But Arjen Robben and friends were never able to score on Julio Cesar, the Brazilian goalkeeper that had to be excellent against Thomas Muller at the 46th minute. On the other hand, Diego Milito, with the help of Sneijder and Eto'o, took care of the rest by scoring at the 35th and 70th minute.
This performance was beyond incredible as the Argentinean international made the Inter fans forget about Zlatan Ibrahimovic, now with FC Barcelona. Louis Van Gaal's troops were warned but it was too little too late. Inter Milan wins the first treble of its history with the help of Jose Mourinho, the special one. The players sacrificed themselves for the team, for the coach and for the fans.
Samuel Eto'o becomes the first player to win two consecutive trebles with two different teams. He first won it with FC Barcelona in 2008-2009 and the second time is with Inter Milan. What was Barcelona thinking when they let go Eto'o ? That is another question or was that part of the overall plan the Special One thought of way back, well before the rest of the world saw it in reality?
