How Lockout in NBA proves beneficial for Memphis Grizzlies: NBA Special Part-1
The National Basketball Association (NBA) has locked their players over labour turbulence with the players association and despite many negotiations between the NBA owners and the players union, no positive result has been come out to resolve this issue.
The league owners and the players association are stubborn on their respective stance over two key clauses of new Collective Bargaining Agreement. The owners want to include a clause of hard salary cap and less revenue share from NBA’s entire income whereas
these two particular new clauses are unacceptable to the players union including entire league’s players.
On the other hand, one is sure over this prevailing uncertainty and especially regarding the stoppage of work in the league. At present, this lockout has entered into the fourth straight month with no guarantee to be lifted from the players any time sooner.
However, those teams who have worked hard in this offseason and completed their preparations for the next season are anxious to play but those particular teams who have yet to make some change in their playing strategies are sitting comfortably and feeling
the positive impact of the lockout.
Memphis Grizzlies is also one of those teams who are getting benefit from the lockout. Though, the Grizzlies are ready for play whenever the lockout ends in the league but as a team they have still some additional things to gain. Here is an overview as how
the Memphis Grizzlies will gain some benefit from the work stoppage in the league.
Zach Randolph and his new contract with the Grizzlies:
Last season, the Grizzlies forward Zach Randolph has truly led his team and won many games during the whole competition. He not only played well in the regular season but he also performed wonderfully in the post-season. His tremendous performance was witnessed
and acknowledged by every individual in the Grizzlies management who later recognised his enormous importance for the next seasons as well. The Grizzlies management rewarded him and extended his contract for the next four years for $71-million.
Although, Randolph is pretty confident to enter into the next season, but some recent reports are suggesting regarding Randolph’s new contract and the right time for starting a new season. According to these reports, the Grizzlies’ star must wait for his
new contract to begin while the lockout is giving him the perfect environment to wait. The prolonged lockout will also give him some extra time to gain more control over his game.
However, Randolph, who is a great future prospect for the Grizzlies, is showing his support to the players union and encouraging the ongoing labour talks with the NBA owners. His recent remarks on sacrificing a whole NBA season in support for a better future
were also appreciated by many.
Randolph said, “If that's a sacrifice we have to make (in order) to make it better for the future then, yeah, I'm OK with it, I'm definitely prepared financially. I sent a text to Billy Hunter two weeks ago and told him he has my full support, I'm definitely
supporting the union. And we all should. This is something I've never been through so it's frustrating, but all of the players should stick together.”
It will be interesting to see how long the NBA Lockout will last and what effect it will have on not only the players, but the teams and of course fans as well.
