How Long Does Businesses Retain No Re-Hire Decissions?

I've been applying to retail chains like Best Buy, Loews Theaters, Borders Books and numerous other retail chains. Whenever I re-apply to them. The interviews go swimmingly, but I don't seem to be getting hired. I worked for some of the chains in the past, and I'm not certain if those chains black ball people that had worked there in the past for various reasons?

Unfortunately, they vary by company. Some keep the information up to 2 years, while others 6 months. Go to the employment section of their website. You should be able to find out how long they retain applications there (which includes a "no thank you")
