Question:

How Long Does It Take To Have A Bowling Ball Drilled?

I wanted to know how long this process takes. Can it be done while I am waiting? Does it take 30 minutes, 3 hours, or will I have to leave it over night? I bought one recently as a gift and wanted to know how long the process took. (I know that the person will have to get it custom fit, but just wanted to know if they could use it the same day I gave it to them of if they would have to wait.) Thanks!

  1. Usually fitting and measuring will take about 5 minutes because drillers nowadays have measurements saved to computers now.

After mapping out your span on the bowling ball and drawing the template for hole location, they will pick out the drill bits and proceed to drill the holes out of the ball.  Extra time to map and balance the ball out for more exotic or high performance drillings is needed too.

When that's complete, usually 10 minutes extra is needed if a thumb slug and finger grips are installed because the glue needs to set.

After drilling, they need you to grip the ball with fingers in the holes to check on your comfort level and if adjustments are needed.  That may take about 5 more minutes.

If the pro shop is busy, I'd say it would take about 2 hours if you left the ball there and if you're the only customer there, 30 minutes maximum.
