I am 20 yrs old and I don't know how to drive yet I am interested in enrolling in a driving school when college begins. I am absolutely clueless as to what course i am supposed to sign up for. Someone informed me that there is a 6 wk course as well as another course that was shorter. I have no experience behind the wheel, and am looking forward to getting my license. How long does the course cost and typically last for one who has no experience behind the wheel?

When college starts backs, i am going 2 be taking 14 hrs and I am wondering if I will be able 2 manage driving school, a pt. time job, as well as attending college. :(

Also, how much does it typically cost, is there a way i can go for free?

  1. I am in driver's ed right now and the course lasts 5 weeks and each class is 2 hours long. It costed about $700 and I live in NH. I think the length of the course and price range differs depending on where you live. I don't recommend taking the course at the same time as you'll be in college because at my school, they give a lot of homework. Every other school around my area gives a lot of homework, too. It takes me at least an hour each night to do it and you also have to devote a lot of time each week to driving with the instructor, observing other students, and you will probably be given a couple of projects/reports to do, also. It is very time consuming but it's great because you learn a lot. I'm taking the course over the summer and i'm very glad that i'm doing when i'm not in school because i doubt that i would be able to handle it with school, homework, a job, and other things going on in my life. To answer your other question, I don't think there is a way to go for free....i wish!!! :)

    Good luck!!

  2. No you can't do it for free the average cost is around $200 with some less expensive ones at around $175 and the most expensive being over $375. A driver's education course usually lasts around five weeks with one class each week usually meeting for around two hours. Programs vary but you will usually receive a specific amount of time in a classroom being taught by an instructor. Then you will get the written test for your permit and they will give you around ten hours driving time. Finally you will take the driving portion of the exam in order to get your license. Good luck with driver's education and have a safe journey on the roads!
