How Long Is The Ride On The Staten Island Ferry?

I was watching the 1988 movie "Working Girl" today and the Staten Island Ferry is prominently featured in the movie. Since I've lived in northern California all my life and have never visited New York City, I'm curious to know how long is the ride to and from mainland Manhattan on the Ferry? Also, how often does it run, where does it dock on the sides? Someday I hope to visit NYC and ride it. Thank you!

Please don't refer to Manhattan as "mainland."  In New York, that distinction really only applies to the Bronx, as everywhere else is an island.

A round trip ride on the ferry is about an hour or so.  The ferry runs fairly frequently 24/7, although in the late night hours it probably only runs every hour or so.

There is not a lot to do for a tourist on Staten island, so you may just want to ride there and back.  The Yankees have a minor league team there, but I think that they are usually sold out.

By the way, the ride is free.

The ferry ride takes 25 minutes each way.

It usually runs every half hour, but more frequently during weekday rush hours and less frequently on weekends and late nights.

It goes from Battery Park in Manhattan to St. George on Staten Island.

In Manhattan, it's terminal Whitehall Ferry Terminal (South-State Sts) where M15 bus pickup, well as R/W at Whitehall St and South Ferry (1) train.

When you're on (1), be sure to be in first five cars of South Ferry-bound (1) train. Trick: Look for # that located on wall of platform indicating car # potion.

In Staten Island, it dock on St. George Ferry Terminal/Staten Island Railway station.
