How Long can gerbils go without food and water?

my gerbil escaped 1 week ago and i found it today! Could it be dehydrated or starving?

  1. Well It could have found food and water around the house. How is your gerbil acting? I would offer it some water and food and see how it recovers from the little outing!

    I really don't know how long they would last, but it sounds like you should really focus on getting the gerbil back in good health!

Since Gerbils are originally from the desert they can go several days without food or water.   Dehydration in Gerbils is rarely seen, since the gerbil's normal metabolism enables full utilization of the water content of the diet. Which means it can get the water out of any type of food it eats.

    Based on the fact that you found your Gerbil alive it probably found other sources of food and water while away on its expedition.

    I would simply provide your little guy with plenty of fresh food and water.  Keep an eye on him.  If he seems to be acting differently please take him to the vet for a check-up.
