Question:

How Many 12-Window Jeep Cherokees Were Made And When Did They Stop Making Them?

I’m wondering because I’ve had one for years and my neighbor last Sunday comes over as I’m changing brakes and starts telling me how well I’ve taken care of my antique. Antique? I tell him it’s not an antique because millions of these were made. He says no. He says that the 12 window Cherokee was a special order, which makes my Jeep a collectors item, and they haven’t offered the 12 window (much less one with a five-speed tranny like mine has) in many years.

I have no idea if he’s BSing me or snidely suggesting it’s time to get a newer car.

(BYW, this Jeep is my work truck. I've had other cars come and go but this Jeep still runs like it's new.)

Any of you know?

  1. I worked on the Jeep Cherokee assembly line for 10 years and worked on it in 1987 and never heard of a 12 window Jeep. They built a lot of 4.0 with 5 speed so that isn't rare, where are the 12 windows? The 4 doors were all built with a windshield, left & right front window with an a post window, left & right rear window with a small piece of stationary glass, cargo area window and a liftgate glass.I guess this could be called a 12 window Jeep but it isn't rare that is the way all 4 doors were built.

  2. What year is your Jeep?
