Question:

How Many Are Working Part Time?

According to an article in the NYTimes, Americans have been afflicted by a growing trend that are not reflected in Unemployment figures. Not only do these figures fail to count the number of people who have already collected their benefits and are still unemployed, but they do not reflect the number of people whose hours have been cut by their employers.

It is a growing trend and, in many cases, these employees are not eligible for any company Health Care Plan. Instead of hiring a full time employee, companies are employing part time help. This is called a step in the long slide into poverty that many American families are experiencing. My question is...are there people on these forums who have had their hours reduced by employers or who have had to try to find two jobs to fill in a work week?

  1. im working part time i wanted to work full time but they were only looking for part time

    but it's a job

  2. You are correct in your assessment.  The actions of businesses  to swindle employees from wages and benefits was begun under what this called is Reaganomics. A bad ploicy then and worse now!

  3. Right here! I was working two jobs until last week, when I finally found one closer to home that would give me enough hours to make up for two.

Anyone who says we aren't in a recession must have a really nice inheritance to sit on.
