or an infinite number, as each colour blends into the next one when you split white light using a prism (as in a rainbow).

  9. 7 yay!!! theres some kind of remembering thingy but sadly... i cant remember.. :(

  10. well i'm not sure how many colors but i can tell you that the bible says that the rainbow is actually a covanent or promise between god . it is to remind us the god will never ever flood the whole earth again.

  11. They say 7. It is a continuum and all 7 are not discrete with boundaries between, what I would call it as, in the range 0.38 nanometers to 0.76 nm, that is an octave (2:1 ratio) scale. Also there is a wild range of other colours as a result of mix and match. Brown, Beige, Cyan, Magenta and so on. Now, the computer does this. Depending upon the proportions and accuracy of it one can have a choice of 32,000 or 64,000 and the like.

The three primary colours (again the choice depends upon the chooser) Red, Blue and Green, being equispaced on the spectrum. The design (engineering problem) is based on what has evolved as a 'Colourimetry' diagram.

    The formula for that is

    R + B +  G = 1.

  12. 7  red orange yellow green blue indigo and violet

  13. Sarah E is bang on.. although the human eye tends to see only 7 colours, there are a huge number of colours present in the visual spectrum. a rainbow  appears when light is reflected through a prism or other form of light splitter. By definition there cannot be an infinite number of colours, but there are a huge number, assuming you had a device sensitive enough to detect each miniscule transition in colour
