How Many Fancy Goldfish In a 55 Gallon?

ok, so im planning for a 55g goldfish tank and i was wondering how many can i put in it? i know not that many, but i know atleast 2. i want a Black Moore and a Lionhead. would a Veiltail also fit Comfortabley, or is that pushing it? well, thanks in advanced!!=]

Those three would be fine together. Good luck finding the veiltail! I've been searching for quite a while now. If you can though, it would be a pretty tank.

I'd say five max if you can clean the tank regularly.

Other wise, stick with two or three. =]

general rule of thumb is one inch of fish per gallon of water.

....those fish will grow bigger than two hands, when they reach full grown sizes....and will be lovely to see

....they are always so happy to see you coming to visit (feed them)lol.

JUST A THOUGHT: many easy to care for fish include red platies, honey and gold gouramis, chery barbs and swordtails....these are ultra simple fish and less expensive too

AS FOR HOW MANY:

.....see the sixth paragraph of the 'aquarticles website' about adult sizes and tank size...(10-15 cm equals 5 to 6 inches)

.....so figure 10 to 20 gallons per fish and a '55 gallon' tank will house 3 to 5 fish ( see the website below goldfish info )

....the downside to goldfish is the additional water changes required to keep a tank clear and smelling fresh

....the upside is how friendly and happy goldfish usually are

....they are so graceful to watch

....keep some live plants too, the plants will absorb some of their ammonia as food, and also plants release CO2, at night, which nourishes the bacteria in the water filter

...I like corkscrew vallisneria, as well as, vallisneria spiralis, Cryptocoryne spiralis and many of the lower growing types, like sagitteria subulata, mondo grass and Anubias afzelii

With good filtration 4 but make sure the tank is cycled before adding any fish and then add them one at a time to keep the bio load from increasing too much at once and starting off a mini cycle.

With good aeration and filtration you could put four or five at the most (go with at least two 50-100 gallon filters that are of good quality) - just means keeping up with water changes and such.

some goldfish can't live together for example a black more wouldn't be good with a fantail because a black moore has trouble seeing and the fantail woud get the advantage of eating more food.

Lionheads adn black moores are good together!

with those two you could put bubble eyes orandas ranchus or other moores and lionheads
