How Many Watts do I want for my Alpine Type R 1500watt sub??

Question

I am going to buy a Alpine Type R Sub, I heard that its a good idea to buy an amp that has more watts them the rated max Watts on the sub?? In this case the max wattage on the sub is 1500. Also when looking to buy this sub is it a better idea to get 2 OHM or 4 OHM.

Also if someone could refere me to a few good amps for this sub that would be great,

all you care about is RMS (continuous) wattage not peak/max

and that sub can handle 500watts RMS

the lower the final impedance (ohms) at the amp the easier/cheaper is is to power but the lower the sound quality

they are DVC subs so they can be wired for two different final impedances- the 2ohm version can get final impedances of 1 or 4ohms- and the 4ohm version can get final impedances of 2 or 8ohms

i would go with the 4ohm version and wire it down to 2ohms

all of these amps are CEA-compliant which means that they have been tested and produce or exceed the advertised RMS wattage with minimum distortion
