Question:

How Many of You Can Manage to do All This?

Make a choice of the right deodorant, toothbrush, hair goop, and facial scrub. Buy the best environmentally friendly light bulbs, the strongest garbage bags and environmentally friendly room fresheners? Do you read all the ingredients on every single thing you buy in the supermarket, AND understand what you've read? Do you know know what free radicals are and the right anti-oxidants to take to prevent all heart disease and high cholesterol? Do you know the difference between LDL and HLD cholesterol? Do you reduce, reuse and recycle? Do you know the best mortgage to pick and how long to amortize it over? Whether you should buy a hybrid or a solar-powered vehicle? I could go on, but I think you get the picture.

  1. most of the things you mentioned, yes i do know.  most of the

cosmetic types i simply decided were too complicated and so

i quit using them.  anything else i put under the category of

    don't sweat the small stuff.

it is the responsibility of us all to do the best we can but none of

us are perfect.  i try to stay informed and yes i do read and

understand labels.  for something big like which car to buy i

would definitely do research, but until i have the money to make

a trade i use my old gas powered model as intelligently as i

    can.

as to the depression and anxiety, i expect they have always

been around,  they just didn't have names.  after all having a

saber toothed tiger prowling around my cave would have made

me anxious and being unable to find food would have depressed

me.  we have always had pressures; they just change.

i do the best i am able and for the rest, like i said don't sweat

    the small stuff.

  2. With the increase of knowledge we know from researching these products, you would think this knowledge would ease our minds but it causes more stress. You have to just find a happy medium and figure out what your priorities are.

  3. Can I manage all of that ? Yes.

Do I ? Not even close...

Too many choices ? That's what Apathy is for...

  4. its kind of what a democracy is, we are allowed to make our own decisions, but yes i'm in agreement with you. it is overwhelming.

  5. read green guides by National Geographic, visit the website-live with ed or live like ed, shop at Whole foods/tradr Joes, buy organic shampoos/conditioners. the guides from National geographic give great shopping tips, also consumer reviews magazine can help.

it's not easy being green/healthy, but that's no reason to get discouraged.life is not easy. I do recycle, and only use reusable bags when I shop.

life is complicated, but I try to simplify mine. you don't have to pay attention to all the products/ads out there for you to consume. find your brands-that you are comfortable using and stick to them

  6. I TOTALLY AGREE.. life is complicated.. but evolve or die, you know? Or you can always move to the mountains and live a simple life away from the mainstream media which infiltrates your brain and tells us what we supposidly need to be alive. But then.. wouldn't you feel cut off from the world? I mean whether we want to realize it or not this si what our world is. The only solution to stopping the control media has upon us is to NOT  BUY into the products they pay money to endorse.. but even then it's like we need toothpaste and toothbrushes and hairbrushes. I mean we could make that stuff ourself but that's economically a dumb desicion as well as timewise. It would cost more money and take up more time just doing making these things. But, maybe that is the issue: maybe everyone is rushing around trying to do things to fast because we all live with underlying fear and anxiety that we never talk about; anxiety that the world is going to eat us up before we even know what we did wrong. And it's that fear and that natural clingling to survival that pushes us to keep moving and running. But like you mentioned.. none of that is necesary to LIVE. We are alive right now and the media had nothing to do with that. It didn't give us life and it can't take our life away but it controls our minds into thinking we need it to survive. When people stop believing what the tv, the computer and media messages are telling them, that's when society's power is in the hand's of it's people not the government. So yeah.. life is complicated. Thing is we are all in this together but no one really see's it that way and untill we acknowledge that we need eachother coming together to change the world, nothing will change. But.. in the midst of this chaos and mindless information, I believe that the power was and always will be in our hands we just have to see it that way.
