Basically it is twice as strong as most 80 proof liquors. Regular Bacardi is 80 proof, and 151 is 151 proof. Proof is just the alcohol percentage multiplied by 2.  So 151 is 75.5% alcohol which means it tastes like awful horribleness.

it's about twice as strong as regular rum, so if you only drink half as much your good. It will do the same amount of damage if you drink to much that any alcohol will do... juust go easy and you'll be fine. :)

It's fine to drink mixed.  It's not more damaging than other alcohols, if you bother to adjust for the higher proof.  If you use half as much Bacardi 151 as you would use vodka, then it's the same mixed drink by alcohol content (in g, not percent, it should be higher % ABV, but the same amount of alcohol).

Everclear 190 proof has a warning on it not to drink it straight.  At 95% concentration, that can actually denature proteins.  Meaning, it will erode your mouth, esophagus, and stomach.  Since 151 is 75.5%, that's not too far away.  I'm not sure if Bacardi 151 straight has this same problem, there's no warning on the label.  

If you drink enough to get drunk on a regular basis, you're drinking too much.  Whether you do that with 4 shots of Bacardi 151 straight, or an 9 light beers, they will have the same effects (they are actually equivelant, not random numbers).

If you ask Bacardi, they will tell you that 151 is mostly for show.  Waiters light it on fire to make certain dishes and drinks look special.  Anything over 50% easily catches fire.  They wouldn't reccomend you drink it straight.

The issue is alcohol content - the "proof" number is just double the alcohol content by weight or volume.

"Proof" was originally tested by dampening black gunpowder with the booze, above 100 proof the gunpowder still burns but under 100 proof it won't as the water kills it. Since those days 100 proof has been defined as 50% alcohol.

Getting drunk, sick, or dead all depend on the amount of alcohol in your blood. Drinking a fifth of 80 proof booze (the usual strength of hard liquor) will  make most people pretty sick and kill small pople like children for example - the smaller body means less blood means the alcohol content of the blood is higher. A fifth of 151 would kill more, and the rest would be a lot sicker. A fifth of everclear 96% would kill just about all except very large people.

151 is not great rum. The flavour is weak if you mix it so your drinks are "normal" strength, and the taste of the alcohol is pretty awful if you measure the usual amount like 1.5oz per drink - plus you will get drunk quickly. Friends who work in the far north like it because they have limited luggage allowances and a month's worth of drinking takes half as many bottles as for 80 proof. Nobody else drinks this stuff except on a dare.

joe444 = you should have told me that a couple months ago. I had a couple of shots of Everclear 190 (95% alc.) straight up no problem. To me it tasted like a stronger vodka.
