  1. You can find pay scales on line. Search the website for the district that interests you, and then search for salary schedules.

In Texas, I was earning about $40,000 a year six years ago. In California, I am taking home almost $5000 a month after 22 years (with pay scale steps lost due to moving from another state). Every state is different and every district within each state is also different. Also, don't forget the expense of health insurance...if it is not covered, you are going to be paying quite a bit to insure yourself and your family.

If you go into teaching for the money, you are following the wrong motivation. Teaching is a difficult job in which you must constantly be "on." It is not for the weak at heart, people who want summers off, and those who think they can teach simply because they have experience as a student!

  2. I am in a middle of the road California district. We start around 40K a year. After 4 years, I was at 52K. If I was in a classroom, I would be at 65K after 10 years.

  3. $25K - $50K

Depends which state/country, the demand of teachers in the area, urban/suburban, public/private

  4. In demand teachers for public schools usually make 40k a year starting. (In demand is elementry education) . Normal is 25k - 35k for public schools starting salary. Private teachers dont do it for the money, they get paid WHOLE lot less.

  5. Depends on the state and if you teach at a charter school, public, private or parochial.  After almost 20 years in public school, I make just over $50K working 2 jobs. Bi-weekly paycheck is just over $1000 after taxes, healthcare, etc. I needed a Masters Degree and now teachers in my state need to earn 175 hours of professional development to keep their state certification.  Teaching is a worthwhile profession;  it's very satisfying to help students learn.  But they don't all ant to learn.  Many parents are anti-school and think we teachers are rich, rich, rich.  It took me more than 10 years to pay off my college loans.  You really have to love the job, because you'll stay late and take work home and work in the summer.  It's hard work but good work.  You have to love it.
