Well I have this friend and she doesnt know anything about horses and her horse (petunia) a beautiful white maybe of the track thourobred is wasting away to nothing. And check this, she doesn't know how old the horse is, she has never given it any shots, can't ride it, has never gotten its teeth done, and the list goes on and on. Her parents have plently of money but say that she has to play 4 it all! And now due to a familly problem does not have enough money to take care of it through this year, as in food and water. They need to sell the horse fast but I keep reminding them that you cant sell a horse legally without its coggins! Then me and another are trying to figure out a way to get her money and raise it quick still without a garentee of it being sold @ all. JUST remember it is not my friend's fault it is the unresponsible parents that refuse to pay for the horses needs. But if someone could so kind as to tell me how much a average coggins cost i could have a goal as to how much we need to raise or if ur intrested in this horse it is in the state of NJ and here is my email for her pic because i do have one of Petunia but i cant seem to get it on the page lol blue_ribbons78@yahoo.com

thanks soooo much

  1. A coggins will run you anywhere from $15-40 depending on where you live. Anymore than that then the lab is taking you for a ride. I use to pull the coggins at our local sale barn and only charged $15.

  2. I live in Ohio and I believe the Coggins test was $25. It also depends on how close your vet is located (travel fee)

  3. My coggins tests were $30 each.  If you're getting one in order to sell the horse, just have your friend borrow the money from her parents to be paid back after the horse sells.

We don't know the whole story, but your friend might be at fault here.  If, before she got the horse her parents said the deal was she had to pay for it's care, then she knew that going into it and if she failed she's got no one else to blame.  At this point it doesn't really matter whose fault it is, and it sounds like it would be in the horse's best interest if she sold her to someone who would take care of her properly.

  4. the test is usually $25 or so but the trip charge can be up to like $50. Find a local vet to do the test so the trip charge is as low as possible. I usually try to get mine done with my horses shots.
