How Much Does Your Child Sleep?

Grace is 11 months, she turns 1 on September 2nd.

We put her to bed between 6:30 and 7:00pm, she rarely wakes in the night and is awake at about 6:00am. She has a nap from 10:00am - 12:00pm, then it's lunch time. At 2:30pm she has a nap until 4:00pm then back to bed later on.

Is this too much/too little sleep? How much does your child sleep?

  1. I don't think that is too much, when they are younger they sleep more.

My son goes to bed between 7:30pm and 8:00pm and wakes at 5:30am. He takes 1 nap during the day usually between 12pm until 3pm.

He just turned 2 a couple of months ago.

  2. My daughter is 13 months old and she goes to sleep around 7:30 - 8:00 p.m, wakes up once around 12 a.m then in the morning she gets up at about 8 : 00 am. She goes for her nap around 11:30 and wakes up at 2:00 :)

Your baby will sleep when she is tired, sounds like you have a good schedule for her :)

  3. That is about what my four month old sleeps.

my sisters 15 month old sleeps from about 8pm to 6am then takes two naps from about 10am to 12pm and 2pm to 4pm.

that is what i have to compare it to. I would say that every child is different. If she wants to sleep, let her.

  4. My son is almost 2 and he goes to bed at 8:00 pm, doesnt wake up till 8:30 am and then takes a nap from 1:30 pm -2:30pm.

  5. If she sleeps well for that long, then she probably needs that much.  By that age my daughter was beginning to need one nap a day, but had about the same night time schedule.  She'll adjust as she needs less.  My daughter is now 2 and still gets a good 10 hrs at night and a 2-3 hr nap in the day.  Little ones need a lot of sleep.

  6. It's definitely not too little sleep. I think you have quite a good routine there. Generally, babies should sleep whenever they get tired, and they normally sleep a LOT. You don't have to have a routine, but yours seems to be working out all right. As long as she sleeps soundly during those times.

I don't have any children of my own, but I've done some baby sitting.

  7. My 12-month old has almost exactly the same schedule and it seems like the perfect amount of sleep for him.  If she didn't want/need the sleep, your daughter would let you know by waking earlier from naps (or refusing to take them at all).

I feel lucky that he sleeps so well at night and takes naps so predictably. At least I can get a lot done around the house during naptime.

Because he spends so much time in the eating/sleeping cycle during the day, there are only small windows of time to get out and do things--I'm sure you know what I'm taking about.  But in a few months maybe they'll consolidate down to one nap a day. Until then, I'm counting my blessings!

  8. I work at a daycare and they put about 2 year olds to sleep at 8:00 PM and They wake about 7:30. They have another nap from 10:00 to 11:00. Eat lunch play do that stuff. And then at 1:00 to 3:00 they have a nap. Then if we notice they get angry or anything we make them take a nap again. Good luck! If she seems sleepy when you make her take naps i think that is fine! If she doesn't you could change her nap schedule!

  9. that sounds normal to me. my 1year old has the same routine. give or take a couple hours

  10. I have an 11 month old....

    bed by 8:00 or 8:30

wakes up at 5:00 or 5:30, has a bottle then back to sleep until I wake him up at 6:30 to go to daycare.

    Nap around 9, 12, and 3 for an 1hour 1/2 to 2 hours.
