How Much Does an Electric Scooter Registration costs here in New York?

I was told by a nyc cop that I needed a registration for my electric scooter, Id like to know how much would that be.

I believe that the registration and plate fee is $17.50.  Is it something that is considered to be a moped?  If so, I think  that the above figure is correct.
