from the 1920's? An actual heirloom piece. Average dress, I mean, nothing extravagant.

Example: How much would a bride pay for an average wedding dress back then? Not today's prices.

Does anyone have a great grandma that they can ask?

  1. Probably about 40-50 dollars.

According to this website an entire ladies dress that they would wear for everyday things cost between 19-35 dollars depending on how fancy it was.  So if you factor the fancy extravagance of a wedding dress compared to an everyday dress it would probably cost around 40-50 dollars.

  2. The average bride  then (circa 1900- 1930)  would  have either made  her own dress, cost  of material, about .30- $1.50  a yard, depending  on what it was. Plus lace which  she would  have most likely  made  by hand, Or inherited.  A relative,  or several relatives  would  help  to  make the dress. or , She  would have worn  her "Sunday Best"  or if she had been a woman  of means,  had  a local seamstress make  one  for about $30  to $150 depending  on the fabric  and adornment work.  We are talking  the "average woman " here... If  she was really rich  it could run in  the thousands.
