Question:

How Much Is Taken Out Of My Paycheck For Taxes?

I live in Fort Worth, TX. I am 21. I make $10.50/hr and I put a "1" on my tax forms when I got hired (because I am single and only have one job.) My gross monthly income is $1,680. I do not have anything taken out of my check (insurance, social security, or 401K) other than taxes. Can anyone tell me the tax amount that will be deducted each month, how much I can expect on my checks, or the tax rate (16%? 20%?). Thanks.

  2. How do you not have Social Security taken out of your check?  Are you an independent contractor?

IRS.GOV has information on tax brackets.  Looks like you'll be in the 15% bracket.  But you've also got to deduct 7.65% for FICA (Social Security and Medicare).  I'd estimate 20% because some of your annual income is tax exempt based on your filing status.

  3. Most people would look at their actual paystub to figure this out instead of looking like an idiot on the entire world wide web

  4. check on the IRS website
