Question:

How Much Money Would You Bet?

Hello peeps, I was wondering if anyone could help me.... I want to place a bet on five different horses to win the Vodafone Derby on Saturday, and I have £60 in total to spend. These are the odds for the five horses I've chosen:

Casual Conquest 4/1

New Approach 3.5/1

Curtain Call 5/1

Tartan Bearer 7/1

Tajaaweed 9/1

The maximum I can afford to spend is £60 (split between the five horses), but I need to know how much I should bet on each individual horse in order to make all of my money back, and the most profit.

All calculations/ suggestions much appreciated. xx

  1. just put £12 on each... that way the minimum u'll get back is £42

  2. Ryan Moore is riding Tartan Bearer and I have a liking for that jockey so would lay the money down on that £5 will pay back £40 with the stake. Went to school with the guy and heard he really fancies his chance's on this horse. If you got the money would do a £10 - £20 each way. I think It will def place.

Remeber that an each way is double the stake so gets you money back for places 1st too 3rd but £10 each way would be £20 in total.

*Edit* If i Had the sixty this is how I would bet

    £30 e/W tartan bearer

    £20 Win Curtain call

    £10 win New Approach

bernice gave good advice is you looking to cover you bets with a small win back, can't go wrong and can't see one of those not winning but stranger things have happened.

  3. It's hard to win much doing 5 horses,

I try to keep it to a max of 3 choices and they would be from your 5

    New Approach,

    Curtain Call and Tajaaweed.

If you put £20 win on New Approach you will return £120,

put £10 each way on Tajaaweed at 9/1 with quarter odds that will return you £100 for a win and £32.50 for a place

£20 to win on Curtain Call at 5/1 £120 return for a win.

You are guaranteed if one horse wins  to profit by £40 to £60.00 with the chance of a place return of £32.50 so you could be £92.50 to the better.

It sounds so good I may do it myself.

Enjoy the racing and have a bit on Lush Lashes in the Oaks.

  4. If you are sure that one of these 5 will win then it is possible to guarantee a profit.  But one of these horses must win.

The ammount that you bet is inversley proportional to the odds, meaning that you bet the most on the horse with the lowest odd and the least on the horse with the highest odds.  You are guaranted to make a profit because of the other horses that you have already elliminated

it works out like this in your case

    New Approach           32% or   19.2

    Casual Conquest       25 % or    15

    curtain Call                  17%  or    10.2

    Tartan BEarer              14%   or   8.4

    Tajaaweed                  12%    or    7.2

    Good luck!

  5. are the five horses in the same race?

  6. http://www.oddschecker.com/betting-tools...

    Casual Conquest 4/1 £14.74

    New Approach 3.5/1 £16.38

    Curtain Call 5/1 £12.29

    Tartan Bearer 7/1 £9.22

    Tajaaweed 9/1 £7.37

Guaranteed profit of £13.72 if one of your selections wins :-)
