  1. It is NOT our business what Eight Belles was insured for and I imagine her owner would like to be able to buy another horse if she was his source of income.  By the way, I want to know how much car insurance you have and life insurance too.  Since you seem to think it should be public knowledge the insurance coverage on that poor horse, then I should know all about your coverage.  I imagine you will tell me it is none if my business, and you are right.  So it is not our business the amount of insurance there was on the horse.

  2. Because it's his financial business and is not something the public needs to know.

    It's not our business.

**Edit** - Eight Belles was put to sleep for humane reasons. She broke both of her front ankles. Her "break down" is on tape.  Her owner did not put her to sleep to collect the insurance money.  Having insurance on her was just good business.

Eight Belles had a very bright racing future. She would have been the second favorite behind Big Brown in the Preakness and Belmont and could have been an upset winner. After she retired from her racing career, she would have been a very successful brood mare

With the right Stud, her sons and daughters could have brought Millions.  If her sons and daughters were successful her grandsons and daughters would have brought millions.

She was worth much more alive than dead.

A successful racing career and possible upset of Big Brown would have raised her trainer and owners profiles in the world of horse racing.

She is worth much more to her owner and trainers alive.  It's well known that the money in horse racing is not in the purse (money for winning a race) its in the breeding rights once a successful horse retires.

If we know Big Browns insured value- it's because his owner chose to release that information. We do not have the right to know that.

We don't have the right to know how much life insurance Earnhardt Senior had. Why did they not hold a press conference and announce to the world how much life insurance he had after his death while racing?

Because it is none of our business!

This is the financial business of Eight Bells owner and trainer. The insurance claim is between her owner and the insurance company.

Eight Belles death in no way financially impacts you. It does not change one thing in your life.  As such, it's not your business.  As such, you do not have a right to know it.

You just want to know because your are being nosy.

I am very sad it happened.  I was pulling for her and was glad to see her give the boys a run for it. I was looking forward to seeing what she could do in the Preakness and Belmont.

Her loss to horse racing is tragic.

Her loss to her owner and trainer even more so. And her loss to them is much more than the financial.  My heart goes out to them.
