  1. I live on the west coast so things might be a little different, but here is what the costs have been for me:

Food: It depends if you get supplements or grain for the horse, and this depends on your horse. For example, if his hooves need strengthening biotin would help, etc. If your horse is strong and healthy and the vet doesn't recommend any extra feed, then you won't need to worry about this.

Farrier: You will need the farrier every six to eight weeks whether the horse has shoes or not. If your horse doesn't need shoes, then it won't cost as much (can't tell you exactly 'cause all my horses have needed shoes), and if he does, regular shoes usually cost around $150. If he needs special shoes, it will cost more (maybe around $200)

Hay: The cost of hay varies from place to place. If hay is grown near you, it won't cost much (5 to 7 $ per bale) but if they need to ship it in from somewhere it can cost as much as $17 per bale. You can phone your local feed storre and ask them how much they charge.

Equipment: Tack is pretty expensive, but if you get an all-purpose saddle it would probably cost you around  $150 to 300. A snaffle bridle would probably cost anywhere from 50 to 200 $. you could also buy second-hand tack (as long as it fits your horse) which would cost less.

Grooming supplies: These don't cost very much induvidually, but if you get the usual supplies (dandy brush, body brush, curry comb, mane comb, hoof pick, sponges) it would cost around $15 to $30.

Lessons in the past have cost me $25 to $30 for half an hour. It depends on what kind of riding you want to do (jumping, dressage, pleasure, etc)

Vet: Check-ups (for shots, general inspection, etc) vary on the area. They can cost $50 to $100 so you'll need to phone various vets in your area to see how much they would charge. If your horse gets hurt, has colic, an illness, etc, the vet bill will be more, but the price depends on what is wrong and what your vet charges.

Halters and lead ropes usually cost around $7.

Water bill: I don't really know, b/c i haven't had to pay for the pump i used.

    hope this helps :)

    happy trails!!!!
